Introduction:

In August 2023, HAVVA Agrotech launched our Season 1, Episode 1 Innovation Day in Penang. This was a significant milestone, and we’re excited to continue this series with upcoming events in September, October, and November. All HAVVAians, hailing from various parts of the country, like Selangor, Sabah, and Perak, came together to make this event a resounding success.

Objectives:

Our Innovation Day series has two main goals. Firstly, we aim to ignite a passion for generating new ideas and fostering innovation within our company. We want this innovative spirit to infuse every aspect of our work at HAVVA. Secondly, we seek to familiarize every HAVVAian with AI and biotech technologies. Additionally, all Havvaian members will delve into the 4Ps of innovation strategy: process, product, paradigm, and position innovation. Understanding these four dimensions provides us with a versatile framework for approaching innovation. It aligns our efforts with the company’s overall vision and mission. To sum up, these goals drive our overarching ambition: to lead the way in sustainable farming through advanced farming practices, ensuring everyone can access healthy, safe, and non-toxic food.

CEO, Philip Loo Sharing Session:

Our CEO, Philip Loo, shared his incredible journey with all Havvaians. He talked about why he has a keen interest in sustainable farming and how he faced really tough times. Philip started with an aquaponics farm called Loo Urban Farm in Georgetown. Besides that, he sold vegetables at a nearby local market to customers. Then came the big challenges. Philip Loo along with our COO, Kenzo Tan, started HAVVA Agrotech. They met many clients, created HAVVA products, did research and development endlessly, overcame many challenges, remained innovative, and kept improving HAVVA’s products and services throughout all these years. This was to achieve one vision: ensuring everyone can get healthy food by 2050. Why 2050? By then, our planet will have a whopping 9.7 billion people and a global food security challenge. We’ll need to make 60% more food to feed everyone in 2050.

ShuHua Sharing Session:

Another highlight of this sharing session, Shuhua, our R&D Director, shared her amazing journey at HAVVA. Firstly, she started as an intern, worked her way up to becoming a crucial part of developing our products, managing our farm operation and project development. She’s currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of Malaya in plant biotechnology, focusing on researching ways to enhance the growth and quality of our crops. Certainly, this shows just how innovative and forward-thinking we are at HAVVA. She didn’t stop there, though. Shuhua also did some groundbreaking research on HAVVA veggies. Besides that, she wanted to make them even better, so she dug deep into finding out how to improve their quality and help them grow.

Meanwhile, she looked into a special bacteria in curly dwarf pak choy. This bacteria sometimes makes the veggies go rot and soft. Her research paper was so good that it got graded as Q1, which is a really big deal! Only 6% of Malaysian papers get this kind of recognition every year. In short, Shuhua’s work really shows the high standard of research we do here at HAVVA.

Book Club Session:

Each HAVVAian presented research papers, educational presentation, anything that related to AI technology and its applications in sustainable farming, emphasizing the importance of understanding new technologies to foster innovation. Therefore, Sharon spotlighted how AI and machine learning are reshaping agriculture. Machine learning aids in yield prediction, cost management, and pesticide recommendations. For instance, AI-driven computer vision diagnoses crop health, optimizing resource utilization. Precision farming techniques and AI technologies enhance both crop yields and environmental sustainability. Cognitive computing foresees challenges, while IoT devices and drones gather crucial data for informed decisions.

Amrina delved into the grocery store of the future, illustrating how AI is revolutionizing operations and managing supply. Deep learning and reinforcement strategies assist stores in sales forecasting and order optimization to minimize food waste. Certainly, this not only boosts efficiency but also ensures customers have access to the freshest products. On the other hand, Syafiq shared his dynamic use of AI tools like Midjourney, chatGPT, and chatfuel. These tools have proven invaluable for driving marketing strategies, creating engaging content, and strengthening HAVVA’s brand presence. Syafiq’s efforts extend to raising awareness about environmental and food security issues through his content creation.
